No way of adding an existing print subscription Inconsistent retina display support Inconsistent
The reader application for Astronomy is very poor Its made by Yudu and is the same reader app used by several other magazinesIts basically a glorified PDFThe text viewing mode is terrible It does NOT remember the text size you select contrary to a demo video posted by Yudus CEO So it forces you to reset your text size each time you view a new articleTo make things even worse the text view is one long file for the entire magazine not per article So when you increase your text size with each article you view it reflows the text moving your backwards several pages in the magazine so now you must scroll forward manually to find the start of your article since it does NOT maintain your position when increasing the font sizeThis is maddening and has to be done each and every time you view an articleI encourage Astronomy to switch to Adobe Digital Publishing Suite as soon as possible and put out a properly formatted edition like Scientific American has done The reader application is poor
I have a subscription to the magazine but even if I log into my registered Astronomy account the content still doesnt show up Hopefully this gets resolved with the next update its a great magazine Not working
Ever sense I downloaded this I have been getting lots of magazine related spam Spam
Maybe Im out of touch on the whole digital subscription thing but Ive been a subscriber of this magazine for YEARS I thought I just needed to register somehow and see all my magazines that I collect already on phone or iPad If Im wrong for the two stars my apologies but I cant see paying that much for looking at magazines that I already have in my possession so Ill just continue looking at them the old fashion way by licking my finger and manually turning page by page Faithful subscriber
The app looks good but I have a print subscription Why should I buy it twiceReviewed when it first came out Even with update still no access for print subscribers Other magazines offer access why dont you No access for print subscribers
Nothing free about this app Weird bait and switch for such a great print magazine App not free
Very fun to read Wonderful
I am both a print and digital subscriber Both subscriptions were purchased through the AM website Big mistake if you want to use the AM app It will only work if you purchase your subscription through the app Now Im stuck with a worthless digital subscription that I cannot read on my iPod Touch Wont work with online ordering
Apparently all that one can do with this app is to purchase digital copies of the magazine one at a timeI an a current subscriber I had hoped that the app would have a sign in and view utility for current subscribers It does not To see a digital version current subscribers must purchase a thirdparty app and pay an additional 1200 over and above the subscription price For current subscribers this app is worthlessNow I understand that Astronomy Magazine is a smallcirculation publication that may require thirdparty assistance and may need to charge for that assistance However I am disappointed by the admittedly very small charge and by the fact that the magazine does not appear in my iPad and iPhone Newsstand but elsewhere And this functionality only via yet another app Not What I Was Looking For
Here I am a current subscriber who paid 43 for the print subscription and an additional 10 for the digital subscriptionSo how does a current subscriber access their issues with this appThis app needs improvement to allow access to current digital subscribers What about current subscribers
I am a current subscriber for the digital mag But it is not support on the Iphone or Ipad Very dissapointed I can get it on the nook or the kindel or a phone which has google play Although I have none of these On the astronomy website it shows a pictrue of reading the magazine from your iphone and or your ipad which is not true No Digital Subscrition
Thats intresting Cool
Cant read without buying issues but the App Store shows it as free Not good Annoying
Im not sure what this app is for It doesnt do anything except take up disc space There should be some kind of disclosure on apps letting people know what its good for This is a waist of time and nothing but an advertisement to buy products Very surprised Astronomy mag would allow this or produce it 1 star only because zero wasnt an option Good for nothing
This app is just a way to sell product I found no way for a current subscriber download the magazineDisappointed No support for subscribers
I already have a subscription to the print edition No way am I paying the 43 again to read it on my iPad It should let you enter your code or whatever to prove that you are a subscriber then let you read the digital edition at no extra cost Bad
Cannot transfer printed subscriptionanother app that tries to rape you for a few more dollars I think Ill be sticking with the printed copy Im sure the app is cool Im not paying for a subscription twice tho I am really considering ditching Apple products altogether Never thought I would say that Disappointed
Ever since the iOS 8 compatibility update I try to open up the magazine but it just crashes right after it says astronomy iOS 8
Why doesnt everyone whos complaining you know actually do something There is a button app support prominently displayed RIGHT NEXT TO THE WRITE REVIEW BUTTON And if you really dont feel like writing that long review than go to the website Dont waste your time writing nasty reviews I understand what everyone means because I subscribe the magazine too but Im sure most people have 2 minutes to spare to send the app makers an email that says I subscribe to this magazine heres my proof that I do so let me be able to download magazines from my iPod Not so difficult is it Lazy people these days
Why cant they just give the real costs Inside the app they want 6 per issue I am not going to play their silly x99 game and somewhat strangely 4 for a single issue subscription The catch being that it goes on month after month until you desubscribe Same deal on the yearly subscription at 43 or 358 per issue I love the magazine and would prefer to read it on my iPad for bulk and preservation reasons but the price should be lower The real costs
I already have a digital subscription and was so excited to see this app Finally I could have all my magazines in one place But it was not meant to be You can not transfer your digital subscription to this app and the price is outrageous for a digital copy My subscription is up after this month and I have no plans on renewing it So disappointed
More than six months not being able to use it Yesterday an upgrade says it fixes a issue of the app crashing which I did Tried to open and guess what the app does not open still crashesWhy would you pay for this App crashes
The app is free kids but you still have to buy the magazine to have the magazine They should just delete the bad reviews where people dont understand how magazine apps workIn this case its a magazine about science so if you cant figure out the app the content is probably wasted on you anyway For everyone else its Astronomy magazine How cool is that Just as advertised
Love it Amazing
Not a free app Requires subscription Bait switch
I was excited for this magazine to finally end up on the iPad But for 43year for a digital subscription Sorry no Thats a ripoff Too Expensive
I like Astronomys content but I thought paying twice for the magazine to get it to download it was a little excessive Now I get the joy of having to try to get my money back from a product that doesnt seem to have any customer service Paid twice
Looks like a decent new app from astronomy mag but I have a subscription and there seems to be no way to transfer my existing subscription to this app So I certainly am not going to subscribe twice Cant tell
Exactly the same as the newsstand edition Still my favorite astronomy rag after 25 years The nice thing about digital is no worrying about storage and keeping them from getting ruined You do have to pay for the subscriptionthe app is free content is not
I already have a print subscription Ill keep the app when I dont have to pay again Why pay twice
Why do they list these as free It is free to see the cover
You have to pay 43 for a digital subscription on top of the print subscription you already pay Thats an epic fail dont bother downloading unless youre willing to let them double dip you on the cost You can get print subscriptions substantially lower Id recommend sticking with that if youre a fan of this magazine Im pretty turned off to the point that I may not renew my magazine subscription when its due Dont bother
Wasted time downloading this appIts labeled as free I should have known it wasnt I figured it would be a litefree version of the mag I subscribe too After reading the reviews it was clear that it only asks u to purchase upon executing the appApple get with itUr policies are so strict for developers why let the ball drop on how its labeled Its not free Apple
Dont list as free It aint I deleted right away Should have read the reviews Free to see the cover That is it
I already have Sky Telescopes app and can view the digital version of my print subscription for no extra charge Why should I pay 4295 to Astronomy magazine for the same privilege No thanks No thanks
I get this subscription through the nook app cheaper than this garbage Terribly misleading and disappointing Dont do it
Its basically an image view that changes pages when you drag it far enough Perhaps a 7yr old made it Better off viewing the website in a browser Blows no iPhone5 support
You must have a wifi connection in order to read your downloaded issue of Astronomy magazine Something about authorization So carry a cell phone hot spot when going to a star party If on a plane read National Geographic it works everywhere must use wifi to read
I used to subscribe Astronomy magazine and Sky and telescope in print This app is extremely awesome I noticed Sky and Telescope app has undesirable reviewsIll probably wait til app is fixed Great app
This app crashes every time I open it on iOS 702 Only way to fix is to uninstall the app reinstall the app restore purchases then redownload every purchase Needless to say this is timeconsuming Then the app works fine for a few days Inevitably the crash problem comes back and I have to redo the ridiculous reinstall procedure just to get a few more days of reading before it goes into constant crashing As such this app is unusable And if Im going to pay full retail prices for a digital copy I must be crazy then this business model is a failure I might as well just buy it off the shelf at the store at least the print copy doesnt crash Please fix or lose another customer FYI also happens with Discover Magazine Needs Immediate Attention
4299 You guys are out of control Your paper subscription is out of control but this is plain criminal 10 is all I would pay for a digital or print subscription these days and I would expect free online access with a print subscription if youre charging 40 for that Bring down the price
This is a true science magazine with informative articles and of course great pictures as well as great ads for the amateur astronomer yes I said great ads And yes Im a real user Its great to find out whats going on in the sky now learn about some of the latest science and to wonder at the universeIve been an iOS user since the original iPhone in 2007 I tried the newsstand magazines back when they first came out I was not impressed Ive recently started checking them out again and am glad to see theyve come a long ways The Astronomy app works great Its just like flipping through the real magazine which I have subscribed too since I was a kid Its nice to have it with me to read articles while waiting around somewhere For those complaining about the workings of the newsstand ie download a magazine app download and browse through the free issues then subscribe if you like it it did take some getting used to for me also Also since different companies make mag apps in the newsstand the experience is different for each company However it does seem to be getting more consistent As far as those complaining about the cost of the subscription give me a break and grow up to the real world These specialty magazines cost a lot to create and we have to pay accordingly When you grow up you will realize that the free or more likely stolen idea is the wishing of children who dont understand how the world works A magazine and app
Just like the print edition Only thing to make it better is to offer all back issues if you have an active subscription Best Astro Mag
